Image Flipper

Mirror an image left-to-right or top-to-bottom. The most common use is undoing the mirroring a front-facing camera applies.

How to use the Image Flipper

  1. Drop in the image you want to mirror.
  2. Choose horizontal, vertical, or both.
  3. Press Flip and download the result.

Flipping versus rotating

They are not the same operation, and no amount of rotation can produce a mirror image. Rotation preserves handedness — text stays readable, a left hand stays a left hand. Flipping reverses it: text reads backwards and a left hand becomes a right hand.

One combination is worth knowing: flipping both horizontally and vertically produces exactly the same result as rotating 180°. The double reversal cancels out, which is why "both" is offered as a shortcut here.

Why selfies come out mirrored

Front-facing cameras show you a mirrored preview, because that is what you expect from a mirror. Some phones save the mirrored version and some save the true version, and settings differ between apps.

The result is that a selfie with visible text — a sign, a shirt logo, a whiteboard — sometimes has it running backwards. A horizontal flip fixes it. A quick check: if text in the photo is unreadable, it needs flipping.

Frequently asked questions

Does flipping lose quality?

The pixel data is unchanged — flipping only reverses the order. The file is re-encoded once at quality 92, so any loss is from that step rather than the flip.

Will it fix a sideways photo?

No, that needs rotation. Flipping mirrors an image; it cannot turn it. Use the Image Rotator for a photo that is on its side.

Is flipping both the same as rotating 180 degrees?

Yes, exactly. Two reversals cancel out and the result is identical.

Can I flip only part of the image?

Not directly. Crop the part you want, flip it, then recombine in an image editor.
